I apologize that I have to ignore the words of Count Dracula (George Hamilton) to Cindy Sondheim (Susan Saint James) in the 1979 film Love at First Bite: “With you, never a quickie. Always a longie.”
That being said I apologize for posting nothing over the weekend. Honestly, I had been overwhelmed by the amount of Trump, Musk, and their acolytes inside and outside the government against our laws and constitution. It got to the point that I could not I could not even read commentary from trusted sources. I had to gain a respite to think and clear my head. I used today to catch up on things that I might have missed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those were coupled with emails and messages from friends dealing with the very real threats to personal, civil, and religious liberties from Trump’s cabal of power hungry and often Nazi (MAGA is simply another term for Nazi, regardless of their protest at being labeled as Nazis) supporters attacking our laws and Constitution with so little opposition and so much success.
Honestly, I believe that we face the most serious challenge to the Constitution, our democracy and our liberty we have faced since the Civil War. The question is, how will me meet this crisis? As for me, my response is the authentic frontier gibberish of Gabby Johnson, the town drunk in Blazing Saddles:
"I wash born here, an I wash raished here, and dad gum it, I am gonna die here, an no sidewindin' bushwackin', hornswagglin' cracker croaker is gonna rouin me bishen cutter."
To which Olsen Johnson played by the legendary actor David Huddleston said:
"Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebt to Gabby Johnson for stating what needed to be said. I am particulary glad that these lovely children are here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed the courage little seen in this day and age.”
Those quotes might seem a little too light hearted for others in light of the imminent threat that Trump and his lawless cabal of sycophants, White Nationalists, Nazis, and corporate oligarchs, including Elon Musk who has become so powerful that he is being touted as President and Trump his Vice President.
How long Trump will allow that is a matter of question and time. All I can say that all dictators who are the head of state have found ways of disposing of allies and supporters who pose a threat to their power. Thus I expect that at some point in the near future that Trump will use his legal power as President to use the law enforcement and military agencies that he controls to do away with Musk and other internal GOP threats as Hitler did during the Night of the Long Knives, who included some of his closest friends and allies. Despite his buffoonery, Trump is neither not stupid and is ruthless when it comes to anyone who opposes him. Note the attacks on, or exclusion of former supporters including cabinet members and congressional leaders.
I will be writing more this week and since I have a day job and things I need at home and for us, I will have to pace myself. Since I have a busy day tomorrow I will sign off for tonight. All the best, be safe and watch your six.
Let’s replace “acolyte” with another term, such as “minion” or “lackey.” Acolyte is most often used to denote a follower of religion who is entrusted with assisting an officiant. The minions of Trump and Musk are not involved in religious or spiritual behavior.
Thankfully you have allowed yourself the chance to step away from the computer and regroup. That is an essential part of the healing process.
