I have been so busy and I do apologize. It is not like that I haven’t been writing, but as I continue to write the next, brand new installment of my Dan Sickles series about him during the Battle of Chancellorsville, which like the Army of the Potomac in May of 1863 has become hung up in the thickets of the Wilderness.
Instead of moving from the recruiting of the Excelsior Brigade at the beginning of the war directly to Gettysburg, I started digging deep into primary rather than secondary mostly secondary sources for the next few installments. It has been great exploring archives online that when I first started my work on Sickles years ago that I didn’t have access, without traveling. Since I am a second year student in a Doctor of Strategic Leadership program I am now taking advantage of all the library resources available to me, and I am stunned to see how much that is available. Last year I just used it for the DSL program, but since my final project will be looking at the leadership of various Civil War Military figures though modern leadership theories I couldn’t resist using them for my other research. However, doing that means that what I post takes longer than before.
But that means that you my readers are getting some first rate history and biography for very little money if you are paid subscriber, and nothing as a free subscriber or visitor.
Since I am working on a doctorate, teaching part time, and working on my second book, I hope that people don’t mind if I put up a paywall after the Dan Sickles series is complete. Paid subscribers will have full access to everything that I post, I ask free subscribers and casual readers to do a paid subscription for $5 a month or $50 a year ($4.16 a month). That is like a Cappuccino or Big Mac a month.
I will post an occasional article without a paywall in the future, but I ask every who reads and appreciates what I do here regularly to subscribe. I have paid subscriptions to numerous Substack sites because I value their work and insights, and when I can afford it plan to change my free subscriptions to paid for several others, because I think that people who do good work should be paid for their efforts. I might have a bunch of Scottish DNA but despite anything my wife says, I am not that cheap, my Irish DNA causes me to throw money at people, particularly if there is a drink involved.
So anyway, I am going to go back to Dan Sickles at Chancellorsville once I post this.
Sláinte!
