Their corruption, stupidity and cruelty are matched by their arrogance and obvious

contempt for all Americans who aren't members of their cabal. I've been voting

for 61 years, and I've never seen anything to compare with this.

Janice,

I hear you. I haven’t ever seen anything like this since I became interested in politics back in 1968 when I was eight years old. Sadly, as a historian I have read too much about similar regimes throughout history. The story never ends well.

All the best and thank you for reading.

I truly hope that there are intelligent people "behind the scenes" with a plan of action for when or if the Republicans decline to give up the power they have managed to finagle.

I've a feeling we are going to need the cavalry coming over the horizon.

Lady Emsworth,

Where are the Royal Scots Grays when you need them? All jesting aside, I hope there are intelligent people waiting with a real plan if that occurs.

All the best,

Steve

Excellent post, Padre ... albeit depressing, but such is the reality today. How some 34% of people still approve of Trump and his actions/policies/lies/rhetoric is beyond my comprehension. We have a rough road ahead ... and we have lost the respect of our allies, which I see as a huge problem. Thanks for sharing your views and thoughts here ... sadly, I think you are spot on.

Jill,

Thank you for your comments. We have difficult days in front of us, but we must fight. I find it frightening that around a third of our population are hardline Trump Cultists. I am so discouraged by how Trump is destroying everything. Hang in there and all the best.

No wonder those of us keeping up are sooo exhausted.

Steven Dundas's avatar

Margaret,

Thank you for reading this, and your comments. You are exactly right. It is their strategy. Flood the zone and wear us out. The same strategy as other dictators and autocrats.

Thank you again and all the best,

Steve

My Substack for this morning deals with the exhaustion from overwhelming emotions from a feminist stoicism perspective. It's really easier than it sounds. It's available in an 8-minute video. We are all in this together. It is Meditation #90 at margaretjparkmdiv.substack.com. Stoic virtues: wisdom, justice, and courage. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and courage!

This all sort of proves that Lincoln was WRONG to stop Southern secession back in 1861. Should have let 'em go. Now the Civil War still rages in a covert way and the Confederacy is winning judicially and in Congress what they lost on the battlefield. So it was all in vain. And what's worse, rather than Dixie being on its own and wallowing in its own troubles, it has seized power of the entire Union and is wrecking the lives of EVERYONE, including those who wanted no part of its ethics.

Kozmo,

I appreciate your thoughts, but I have to say that the real fault began with Andrew Johnson who did not hold Confederate leaders to justice. Grant defeated the Klan and passed both the15th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1875. Unfortunately, Northerners grew tired of policing the South and Reconstruction and their interests in getting rich. See my book if you don’t have it.

At the same time I despise what these Neo-Confederate White Supremacists have destroyed the GOP and are in the process of trying to destroy our country. I say, damn them to hell and fight like the devil.

Thanks again for your comments and all the best.

Sure thing!

I expect the next wave of secessionism will involve the Blue states wanting out of a "Union" that tyrannizes them and no longer serves the interests of the citizens. Unless things change. Domination by New Dixie is not sustainable and why should half the country go down in flames, dragged by a minority of fools?

the reconstruction was sort of like inviting termites to come live in your house. . .

Steven Dundas's avatar

Reconstruction was designed to kill the termites. Unfortunately the North lost patience and turned victory into defeat.

Harry and l hobbbled over to Greenwich Village on May 1, to participate in out umpteenth protest. Since the mid 1960’s we have been involved in Civil Rights issues and voter registration.

My son just texted me that he was also at the vibrant Mayday Rally!
