In under two weeks Donald Trump has gone a lot further than Adolf Hitler did to establish a dictatorship. Trump’s Blitzkrieg of Executive actions and orders left opponents stunned, disoriented and missing the bigger picture of what he was doing. The same was true of his now paused sanctions against Canada and Mexico. They were all about diverting us from what Elon Musk, an unelected and until today when he was made a “special employee” whatever that means, was not in the employment of the Federal Government seized control of sensitive computer databases in the Office of Personnel Management, the Treasury Department, and the USAID. Over the weekend his employees who are not federal employees nor hold security clearances gained control over all and froze out the authorized personnel under the threat of arrest.
The OPM database has the detailed information of every current and past U.S. Federal employee, other than the military. The Treasury Department database includes all Federal Government disbursements including Social Security, Medicare, Veterans benefits, federal grants of all kinds, as well as congressionally mandated disbursements throughout the United States and world, many of which are connected with important national security and economic interests. The USAID servers and databases include access to Top Secret and higher classification that are connected to State Department, U.S. Military, and National Intelligence systems, leaving unimaginable amounts of data in their hands which could easily be transferred to Musk’s allies in Moscow and Beijing.
This was an illegal and unconstitutional seizure of power. Congress which under Article I of the Constitution holds the power of the purse, which the executive branch cannot override. In some cases it might be able to delay spending, but it has no power to on its own authority to cancel, suspend or ignore congressional authorizations.
Nobody in our country other than Trump, Musk and their fellow oligarchs and of course Vladimir Putin have anything to gain from these actions.
I am too tired to write more tonight. I couldn’t sleep after seeing detail of any that happened between Friday and Sunday evening. Sadly, I expect most of us to have a lot of sleepless nights in coming days, weeks and months.
Until next time. Be safe and watch your six.
No guns, no bombs, no blood - just went in a did it. And the majority of the American public STILL have no idea what has happened - because it's not on TV or any of the heritage media. I commented yesterday on a splashy, lots of photos, Post article about the Grammies "Shouldn't you be more worried about what Musk is doing to the country rather than this dross.?" I received several replies "This is a CULTURE page" "Lighten up!" "Aren't we allowed to enjoy ourselves?" These will be the first people to whine when Musk wipes out all their freedoms and benefits.
Good grief, would be the ladylike response to all of this. Even though I am of a certain age, my response to it is WTF! How can we allow Chairman Trump and his lovely wife, Elon, do this to our country?
