Thank you for your excellent analysis, Steve.

I've been on a bit of a vacation.... Tried to keep up, but now have time to catch up. A lot of reading, but so necessary. The description/definition of empathy is right on. I have known people with a lack of empathy and they used it to punish, set up consequences, delighted in harm, and acted superior at all cost. I often thought trump and my ex-husband had a lot in common. This definition has opened my eyes. I'm NOT nuts after all. I am NOT a lunatic, as trump calls liberals. I am kind, I walk humbly, and I stand on the side of justice. .... everything that trump, muskrat and magaronis are against. I have empathy. Thank you.

In defence of Elon Musk, and trump (which, believe me, I DO find hard to write!), I do think there is something physio/psycho logically wrong with them.

I have a grandson of 40 who is has been diagnosed with Aspergers. From a VERY early age it was apparent that he didn't "recognise" other people as "people" - they were just artefacts in his world. He could not be left alone with smaller children, as he had no appreciation of the harm his version of "play" might do them. He also had trouble with larger children, as the couldn't work out how to handle his apparently thoughtless behavior. And children of an equal age and size would see him devolve into hysterical rage when thwarted. This behavior has not changed over the years - he has no friends, except those that use him. and no partner. He never has had what you might recognise as a partner - his behavior precludes that. His sexual needs he has to pay for. It's a sad and lonely life. He never connects with anyone - even me or his mother.

Does this sound like a couple of people you know?
