On September 16th, 1963 a young White lawyer in Birmingham Alabama named Charles Morgan Jr., spoke these words after a black church was bombed and the police attacked peaceful protesters: “from anger and despair, from frustration and empathy. And from years of hopes, hopes that were shattered and crumbled with the steps of that Negro Baptist Church.”
