Steve, I have seen several people who are part of the resistance commenting "I am ashamed to be an American today."
Please don't be. The America you are fighting for is something to be proud of, despite all its faults.
It is trump and all his supporters who should be ashamed - deeply, deeply ashamed. The fact that they are not, and rejoice in their cruelties, is the reason that they will NOT succeed.
People with the hearts of TRUE Americans see them for what they are - and those numbers are growing.
Remember that when you are feeling so down. Lift up your chin and sing:
"My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From ev'ry mountainside
Let freedom ring!"
Those words are as true today as when they were first written. MLK knew whereof he spoke.
I know, it’s hard not to be. I still believe in the principles of the Declaration and I am proud of many of our accomplishments as a nation and people in our fight to extend those principles to all Americans. I won’t give up but I can no longer wear clothing associated with the American flag since Trump’s cult has commandeered them. I am afraid people might think me a Trump supporter. Instead, I wore my German National Soccer Team jersey and hat. I will be resisting and I do remember the words of Dr. King. However, at this moment in time, this Independence Day I am somewhat ashamed to see the Regime destroy everything good about our country and turn any dissent into a crime.
I completely own how I feel at the moment without ever giving up. As Ferdinand Foch wired Marshal Joffre at the Battle of the Marne: “My center is giving way, my right is in retreat; situation excellent. I shall attack.”

The Statue of Liberty will soon be decked out in cheesy, tacky gold paint and holding a big T instead of a torch.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
Power remains in the hands of people. Giving up is counterproductive. There is strength in resisting and trusting yourself.
Babs,
